How Students Benefit from a Boarding School Education
The overall majority of students in the United States live at home and attend a public school. 89% of all students fall into this category in fact. The other 11% are taking a different path to pursuing education. Many of these students attend a private school of some sort. Private schools come in many forms. They can be Catholic schools, military schools, secular schools, aviation themed private schools and any one of another half-dozen type of private institution.
The number one feature parents look for in a private school is the one-on-one attention from the teaching staff. In fact, one of the first stats they check is the teacher-to-student ratio. In public school this number is usually between 25-1 and 50-1. This means that for every teacher there are 25 to 50 students in that school. Some of your better private schools have ratios that are better than 12-1. Ideally, a ratio of 10-1 or better is what is desired.
Cost of Private Schooling
If your student attends a local private school where they stay at home and are driven to school each day, the price can be quite affordable. These schools can be less than $10,000 per year. A boarding school is a different story altogether. Having to house, clothe and feed the student 24 hours per day is an expensive undertaking. It is for this reason that private boarding schools are priced somewhere between $25,000 and $50,000. Although there are many grant and financial aid opportunities, the majority of tuition funds are provided by the parents.
College Acceptance
The national college acceptance rate for high school students is around 68%, If you narrow in on private school, that rate spikes to almost 95%. You can see for yourself that a child going to private school has a much better chance of getting into college. This is a big factor for parents looking to secure the best future for their child.
